What the Water Leaves Behind considers the biblical imagination of water as both destruction and salvation. The flood can wash away the old world, but it can also become the means through which something is preserved. In this tension, the work asks what it actually means to be saved, and who gets to decide who is worthy of saving.
A deep field of layered blues creates a sense of immersion and weight. The surface is built through repeated gestures that both obscure and reveal what lies beneath, much like water reshapes a landscape over time. Small flashes of gold appear almost as fragments of light beneath the surface: traces of grace, memory, or the possibility of something new.
The work moves beyond traditional biblical stories toward a more personal question of transformation. Can we change, reshaping ourselves through experience, or does what has happened to us leave an erosion that cannot be undone? And, if salvation promises a new beginning, what happens to everything the water carries away?
What the Water Leaves Behind is ultimately a meditation on judgment, mercy, transformation, and the uncertain boundary between being changed and being permanently marked by what we have survived.
